Currently a Junior attending UW-Milwaukee working towards a double major in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. I intend to move on to graduate school to further study Operations Research which intertwines both of these areas of study.
Experience
The only formal tutoring experience I have was with an Iraq veteran who had not taken mathematics in seven years. He enlisted my help through a family friend after he had gotten a D in the Calc 1. Through our cooperation we managed to bring him up to a B+, which was his original goal. We continued together to get him through Calc 2 with another B. More importantly, I managed to change his perspective on mathematics. When we finished our work together he was proud of his accomplishment as I was of him as well. I feel there is a negative stereotype in relation to mathematics. Horror stories of teachers monotonously droning on are abundant and often set negative attitudes towards it at a young age. I assure you, math can be fun. My goal as a tutor is first and foremost to achieve whatever your desired goals are. Beyond that, I hope to inspire you through my passion for mathematics by explaining it in terms anyone can understand. Math has a fundamental relationship to logic which aids us in all degrees of cognitive function. Aside from that I have always been the go-to guy for help with friends and family members studying engineering or business related fields that have mathematical related issues. For reference I have completed the following courses: -Calc 1 -Calc 2 -Calc 3 -Linear algebra and differential equations -Abstract algebra -Introduction to the language of mathematics -Linear optimization/programming I am currently enrolled in the following: -Vector analysis -Modern algebra -Introduction to probability models -Linear/Quadratic optimization.
