Experience
I work daily with students with Special needs as well as inclusively with the general school population. I consider one of my strengths to be considering each person as a whole being. When I teach writing, I don't just focus on grammar. I focus on what inspires creativity for the student. In order to accomplish this successfully, trust and mutual respect need to be the foundation. And of course, every person is different. Acknowledging this allows me to assess where the specific individual is beginning and move forward from there. Teaching Special Education has been such a great fit for me. It is such a joy to work one-on-one with students. So much progress can be made in a very short period of time if both student and teacher are invested in a goal. And that goal needs to be agreed upon. People are motivated by their passions and interests. If the passion is not coming from the student, no progress can be made. That is the biggest role of a teacher; to find what motivates the student and use that as avenue towards learning. I have much life experience. I have worked in health care for over ten years in various roles. I worked as a Cultural Anthropologist in my community and created cultural walking tours where people were able to learn more about the history of their home town. I have studied and practiced meditation and yoga for over a decade. It is amazing how using breath can assist in focus and motivation. I have also had many "fun" jobs such as lifeguarding, bartending on a local cruise boat, babysitting, writing, interviewing, and photography. Overall, I am a life learner and enjoy sharing all that I've learned as well as learning from those that I work with. I look forward to creating self-sufficiency in individuals and a confidence that only comes from succeeding.

I am very dedicated to spending time with my family. We are very active and love to spend outside doing any number of things. My daughters are very young, 2 and 3, so playing in the park, reading stories, and playing are part of my daily life!
