Experience

I am an experienced tutor working with all types of students from remedial to post-college students and from all types of backgrounds. I particularly enjoy tutoring in Latin, English grammar, reading comprehension, writing, history, literature, and other humanities areas. I have also done some math, but my strengths are more in the humanities, time management and organization. I have also taught an ACT prep class in the past. I have much experience in working with middle and high school students of varying backgrounds, including those from lower-income schools and neighborhoods. I also have experience in working with those with ADD and ADHD. However, I also have been a teaching assistant at the graduate school level and have the ability to explain complex theoretical concepts in ways that are simple to understand. Having worked with many different types of students, I realize that while the learning process is a unique one, each student has things in common as well. I would look forward to helping you with your unique needs! Specialized Subjects: English Literature Sociology Communications Christian Theology Comparative Religions Speech (including public speaking coaching) Ancient Greek Western Civilization History Humanities I am currently completing my second MA and applying for PhD work. I hope to one day teach at the university level. I have experience in tutoring from upper-elementary to the graduate school level and particularly enjoy helping students understand complex concepts by breaking them down one piece at a time. I see learning as a process and realize that no two people are at the same point of that journey, nor do they necessarily all get to the same points in the same way.

Hobbies

While I'm a busy graduate student with my nose often in a book, I enjoy lots of other things, too! I have a soft spot for movies and TV shows that make me laugh and/or think. But mostly laugh. Or it's best when they do it at the same time. I particularly have a softspot for sci-fi with a sense of humor. I love the theatre and singing. I love music from rock n' roll to Bach and play the piano and the cello (sort of )and enjoy going to concerts when I'm able. I mostly just like to be with people I love and laugh. I also think that learning is a lot more fun and memorable if we can laugh in the middle of it.
